I got my package! June 5, 2008

Judy sent me the most fantastic India-themed swap box! She filled it with incense, Monsoon Wedding (I LOVE that movie), Beneath a Marble Sky (the story of Shah Jahan’s love for his wife and how he built the Taj Mahal in her honor), a Dover book of Indian Stencils, IK Spring 2005 with a beautiful paisley shawl pattern and red yarn to complete it, peacock colorway sock yarn with a sock pattern and Harmony DPNs. I’m thrilled!

My husband was of course very curious and wondered who knew me well enough to put together that box! When I got home from bookclub he said “I smell something that reminds me of college…what is it?” (The incense of course…don’t ask).

I think I’ll be making butter chicken and rice pudding for dinner. =)

It’s in the mail! May 30, 2008

Ooooo I hope she likes her package! I mailed it yesterday and since she lives in Virginia, I’m thinking it will arrive early next week. It was a little difficult choosing a theme, but once I settled on one it was fun filling the box. I wonder if it will be apparent what the theme is?!

Spoiling package nearly complete May 14, 2008

I’ve had fun shopping for my swap partner! Although it’s tricky shopping for someone you’ve never met, and I want so badly to build a box she’ll love, it’s very liberating to have $50 to spend with no guilt! The needles for the project are the only thing left… if she has size 8 already I will just add more goodies!

Trip to my LYS May 7, 2008

It’s a pleasure that comes too rarely…a trip to the yarn shop! I took my princess (age 2) while her big brothers were in school. Bringing two boys into a knitting store is NOT a good idea. The last time they went in, 1st grader dropped cheeerios all over the floor, tripped over patterns in the carpet, and knocked books off the shelf. Tween-ager made jokes about the models in the Rowan books and asked fifty thousand times when we were going to the skateboard shop. The princess likes to hug skeins of yarn and look at the doggie pattern books.

Today she helped me shop for my Mystery Swap package, and we picked up two bags of sale yarn for ourselves: very summery Cascade “Cotton Rich” that I hope will be nice for humid Florida summers. Princess got lilac, I got baby-poop yellow. Now we must find patterns!

I have a Mystery Swap Partner! May 7, 2008

My buddy, Judy, lives in Virginia and is a WAY more experienced knitter than I am. I hope I can find a pattern and yarn she will like. It’s been fun reading about on her blog and her ravelry posts. It’s obvious she looooves her dog!!!

A New Swap… April 15, 2008

I’m excited about being a part of Mystery Theme Swap 3. I found it today on ravelry. My first attempt at swapping was last summer. I thought I made a pretty nice package, shipped it off to Germany, and never heard from my partner. Even the moderator didn’t answer my emails, so I’m hoping for a better experience this time!
